Curriculum Updates:

Reading: We've wrapped up our nonfiction unit on weather! The students took time on Tuesday to appreciate how they've grown as a nonfiction reader as well as shared some amazing facts they've discovered through researching their weather topic. Please take a moment to watch your child's video on Seesaw! We will be diving back into fiction in our next upcoming unit!

Writing: We've also wrapped up our writing unit on personal and persuasive essays. To celebrate, we discussed who we wanted to read our essays and who would benefit from reading them. We then researched different people/companies/and organizations to send our personal and persuasive essays to! Many kiddos are hopeful for a response back (I am, too!)

Math: This will be a busy week for math. Our division unit is coming to a close. Students have a Quick Quiz on Monday and Wednesday with the Unit test on Friday. Students are coming home today with the review packet so they can get a head start on studying. We will spend a lot of time reviewing and making sure we understand divising well next week before the tests. If you are noticing that your child is having an especially hard time, let me know! I will work with them here in class.

Word Study: Word study test for Unit 4 will take place on Friday, December 4th.

Today we spent time talking about the word "gratitude". We made a gratitude "chain" of paper where we all wrote one (or more) things we are grateful for! Ask your child what they wrote! I am very grateful to be your child's teacher. Each of my students are so great.

Enjoy your week/weekend! 🦃

Week of November 15th

 Happy Friday!

I really enjoyed speaking with half of you at conferences yesterday and am excited to connect with the rest of you this coming Tuesday! Conferences always remind me how truly great this class of students is. I am so happy to know your child and be their teacher.

For those of you who have conferences on Tuesday and haven't filled out this Conference Survey yet, I'd love it if you could:

Curriculum Updates:

Reading: We are continuing on through our Weather Nonfiction Unit, but will be wrapping up on the 23rd. Students have gathered into new groups with new topics and have begun a research project! They are taking all the skills they've learned about nonfiction, notetaking, and research and applying it as they navigate through their topic.

Writing: We are working hard on revising and editing our personal essays. This week we leveled up our introduction and conclusion paragraphs. Next week we will make the switch to persuasive essays. I have a classroom of little activists and I can't wait to see what they write about!

Math: We wrapped up Unit 2 studying multiplication. We started with division today and will really dive into it next week. I gave students a "Unit 2 Check In" last week and learned that some students are nervous to begin more challenging math. Just because we are moving into division, does not mean I will stop working with students on addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Below is a document that was sent home yesterday of some of the work and methods we are using here in the classroom. Please let me know if you would like another copy!

Word Study: Unit 4 starts today! We will revise the exception to the vowel-consonant-e syllable. We will also learn a new spelling rule for adding suffixes to vowel-consonant-e syllables. When adding a consonant suffix to a word that ends in a silent e, students will simply add the suffix. However if the suffix begins with a vowel, students will drop the e before adding the suffix.

Content: Our energy unit is coming to a close. Check out your child's presentation is posted on Seesaw! They did great and I was really impressed by all the information they've gathered. Our next unit we will study is Structure, Function, and System Processing.

Leader in Me:  This month we are focusing on Habit 2: Begin with the End in mind. Ask your child how they begin with the end in mind here at school or at home!

Have a wonderful weekend! 😊

Curriculum Updates:

Reading: We are nearing the end of our first bend of the unit! Students are working hard to continue understanding and taking notes from their nonfiction texts. It has been such a cool experience to watch students investigate and share all the facts they've been learning from their texts. We have been working hard to summarize in our own words as well as understand the main idea and key details of a text.

Writing: We are working hard at crafting personal essays. We are putting a lot of emphasize on the planning and drafting process to make sure we are being the greatest essayist we can be. Check out this poster showcasing the personal essays that are coming soon:

Math: We have our Unit 2 Test on Monday, November 8th. Your child recieved a pink packet last Monday to complete to help them prepare for the Math test. Please let me know if you have any questions about this. You can expect to see their graded tests on Tuesday

Word Study: We began Unit 3 in Word Study. We've been focusing on multislyabic words as well as vowel consonanet e words. A packet with a parent letter came home earlier this week for your student to complete if they'd like. Remember, these are optional assignments but highly encouraged.

Content: Students have been placed in Energy groups of their choice and have been working hard with the other researchers in their group to create a slideshow showcasing all the information they've learned. Students will present their slideshow with their group on Tuesday. It will likely be posted on Seesaw or I will record each student's presentation and share it with families. I will keep you posted.

Leader in Me:  This month we are focusing on Habit 2: Begin with the End in mind. Ask your child how they begin with the end in mind here at school or at home!

Enjoy your weekend! 🍁

Thank You

It's hard to put into words how bittersweet the end of the school year is. It has truly been an honor to teach this group of fourth grad...
