Week of September 20th

 Hello!

It has been another great week! Students took their first set of iReady tests this week. They did awesome! This baseline data really helps me understand your child better and know what supports they need to keep them growing!

If possible, please send your child with their own set of headphones and mouse to keep here at school.

Spread the Love Food Drive

September 27-October 1st

The first service project for the 2021-2022 school year will be the Spread the Love Food Drive for St. Joseph Food Pantry in Menasha.

St. Joseph’s Pantry is in high need of  peanut butter and jelly.  We will be collecting plastic jars of peanut butter and jelly the week of September 27-October 1st.   Students can bring items to their classroom for donation.  The class that brings in the most items will win a prize for the class!

Upcoming Events:

September 20th: Wear Packer gear! 🏈

September 24th: No School

September 29th: Kaukauna Homecoming Parade

Curriculum Updates:

Reading: Reading has been going wonderfully! I am really impressed by how much this group of kiddos values their independent reading time! They are all really great at finding a cozy spot in the classroom and diving into their books. I am working through gathering data on students reading to better understand which aspects they need more support with. Students also got their Reading partners this week, they've done awesome working together and having meaningful conversations about reading.

Writing: We are still working through writing true stories. Revising and editing seem to not be a fan favorite - we will work on that. Students are continuing to work toward improving their writing's structure, development, and language conventions.
all working hard on improving our writing's structure, development, and language conventions.

Word Study: We will begin Unit 1 this week!

Math: We are making our way through Unit 1! You may notice that your child came home with their Unit 1 Quick Quiz today. Majority of the class still struggles with place value and rounding so we will continue to work on that in small groups as we continue to progress through the unit. We've begun practicing addition with larger numbers (in the thousands). I am encouraging students to find a way to add that works best for them. I will be demonstrating common methods as I teach whole class so those students who are unsure of which way is the 'easiest' for them, may find a way.

Enjoy the weekend! 😎 Please reach out if you have any questions.

Thank You

It's hard to put into words how bittersweet the end of the school year is. It has truly been an honor to teach this group of fourth grad...
