Week of January 10th

 Hi Families!

I hope your 2022 has been off to a great start! It has been a busy first week back for all. I was out on Thursday and Friday so I apologize for anything that has slipped by. I will be back and ready to jump back into it tomorrow! Thanks for understanding and patience. I appreciate it!

Homework Update: You may have noticed that your child has been coming home with regular writing homework. This homework is apart of the work we are doing while piloting for Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, Columbia University! This homework usually is a printed on a pink half sheet of paper and almost looks like more of a letter. I have been requiring kiddos to staple into their agenda. That way it is right there next to their reading log!

NDLC still launching our #NDLCReads campaign on social media. In class we are making a "bookshelf" display where students show books that they've read. Some ways you can participate at home include:

  • Snap a photo of your student reading at home
  • Post it to any social media platform with the hashtag #NDLCReads
  • Tag us on Facebook using @ndlccharterschool

At the end of each week, your child's name will be entered in a book drawing to be held January 28th!

A Message from the third grade members of Environmental Club:

NDLC will be collecting your Little Bites bags from now until May! The Entenmann company has a collection service where if you send in a box of recycled Little Bites bags they will give you money for your organization. It's a nice way to raise money for our school for recycling!

Here are examples of what we are collecting:

Send the empty bags to school and we will take care of the rest!

Thanks,

NDLC Environmental Club

Curriculum Updates:

Reading: We have launched into our Reading History unit where we get to dive into texts and information all about the American Revolution. This unit has got to be one of my favorites, so I can't wait to navigate through this learning with your child!

Writing: As you know, we are currently piloting a unit for Teachers College! This is such an honor and such an amazing experience for our school and your children! We've been working hard at coming up with narrative stories to draft. We think about people, places, and BIG moments that happened to us that we can practice writing to be a stronger writer!

Math: We are in Unit 8! We have been working on studying points, rays, and angels. Each kiddo got a protractor last week which has been very exciting...and very confusing to some. Don't worry! I will make sure they get much more practice with their protractors!

Stay well & stay warm ☃

Thank You

It's hard to put into words how bittersweet the end of the school year is. It has truly been an honor to teach this group of fourth grad...
