Week of Jan 31st

I hope you have all had a great week! I cannot believe January is almost over!

We celebrated the end of Bend 2 in our American Revolution reading unit with a debate between the Loyalists and the Patriots to see if we would remain loyal to King George III or break free.

After the debate, all the loyalists and patriots casted their vote to see what our class would do. We voted to break free from Great Britain & King George III. Some very upset loyalists decided they would not comply and are planning on taking the next ship back to Great Britain.

Please send your child with their roller-skating equipment in a labeled bag this week.

A Message from the third grade members of Environmental Club:

NDLC will be collecting your Little Bites bags from now until May! The Entenmann company has a collection service where if you send in a box of recycled Little Bites bags they will give you money for your organization. It's a nice way to raise money for our school for recycling!

Here are examples of what we are collecting:

Send the empty bags to school and we will take care of the rest!

Thanks,

Curriculum Updates:

Reading: The debate was a success! The students have really gotten into reading about the American Revolution. Watching the debate, I am just reminded how silly our little classroom family is. I am excited to see the great work they continue to do as we finish off this unit.

Writing: I am excited to share that this week we will be done with piloting the new writing unit for Teachers College. This has been such an awesome experience that has really motivated the students to be incredible narrative writers. As a celebration, on Friday, February 4th, I would like to send out an open invitation to any guardian or family member to come join our classroom from 2:30-3 to listen to the students read their stories and show the incredible growth they've made. If you can make it, we'd love to have you!

Math: We're working hard as we continue through Unit 8. This week we've spent time working on identifying perpendicular, intersecting, and parallel lines. A fun activity that the kiddos seemed to enjoy was creating our own town map and then identiying which roads were what type of lines that we've learned. We will begin next week with a focus on quadrilaterals and their different characteristics.

Have a great weekend. 😊

Thank You

It's hard to put into words how bittersweet the end of the school year is. It has truly been an honor to teach this group of fourth grad...
