Week of Feb 28th

We had a pretty great week in fourth grade!

KAT Fundraiser Envelops are due next week! February 28th - March 4th

I'm on the hunt for a digital timer to use in the classroom. If you by chance have one at home that you don't use, I'd love to take it off your hands!

Environmental Club Project:

NDLC will be collecting your Little Bites bags from now until May! The Entenmann company has a collection service where if you send in a box of recycled Little Bites bags they will give you the money for your organization. It's a nice way to raise money for our school for recycling!

Here are examples of what we are collecting:

Send the empty bags to school and we will take care of the rest!

Thanks,
NDLC Environmental Club

Curriculum Updates:

Reading: It has been great working with the fourth graders in book clubs this unit. They've really taken the initiative to do the deep thinking work. In their clubs, they've created folders and notebooks that hold their tools, jots, etc. We have a designated "Book Club Folder File" that holds all the book clubs folders. I am always so blown away by their writing about reading when I get to dig through their folder. Check in with your child, ask them how their book club is going, I'm sure they'd have lots to share.

Math: Students are loving learning about fractions. They've worked hard to understand and use the fraction vocabulary terms. We've been learning the difference between a mixed number and a fraction greater than one (an improper fraction). We've also been adding and subtracting fractions. Students are being challenged each day after the lesson by completing leveled packets, working with me, and playing games.

Writing: These historical fiction stories are really coming along. Students should be finished with two historical fiction pieces by Friday, March 4th. I am excited to see their final results! They are really showing the importance of revisions and how making big bold revisions can push you as a writer and push your story to be better. We have been brain storming how to celebrate the end of this writing unit and I can't wait to see what the students decide on!

Stay well!

Thank You

It's hard to put into words how bittersweet the end of the school year is. It has truly been an honor to teach this group of fourth grad...
